According to Christianity Today, renowned Bible designer and 2K/Denmark co-founder Klaus Krogh died on October 6 at the age of 74. Krogh spent over 40 years working to improve the aesthetic quality and readability of printed Bibles, influencing the design of millions of copies distributed globally.
Krogh co-founded 2K/Denmark, a graphic design firm based in Højbjerg, which became a leading provider of typeface services for international Bible publishers. Throughout his career, he collaborated with major organizations, including Crossway and the United Bible Societies, to modernize the presentation of sacred texts. His work focused on balancing traditional layout expectations with contemporary typography to increase reader accessibility.
The designer was particularly noted for his efforts to accommodate readers with visual impairments and learning disabilities. He developed specific typefaces optimized for dyslexia and low-vision users, emphasizing that clear design is essential for scripture engagement. Krogh maintained that poor formatting often served as a barrier to consistent reading habits.
During his tenure at the firm, Krogh oversaw the design of the ESV Reader’s Bible and various specialized editions of the New Testament. His approach involved stripping away traditional study notes and cross-references to create a cleaner, more readable page. Industry colleagues described his contribution as a significant shift in how publishing houses prioritize user experience in religious literature.
Reflecting on his design philosophy, Krogh stated, “If you are about to publish the Word of God, it should be beautiful.”
Krogh’s work extended beyond simple typography to include the physical construction of Bibles, such as paper weight, binding flexibility, and ink density. He frequently consulted with international printers to ensure that mass-produced volumes maintained high production standards. His firm continues to operate as a consultant for Christian ministries and commercial publishers seeking to refine their print materials.
The family of the deceased has not yet released details regarding a public memorial service or funeral arrangements. Industry representatives expect that his design legacy will remain a standard for future Bible publishing projects. 2K/Denmark intends to continue its operations under the current leadership team.
